Seattle Office of Labor Standards Reaches Settlement with McMenamins Brew Pubs, Inc.

Total of Nearly $91,000 Returned to 131 Workers

Seattle, WA (July 10, 2025)- The Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) investigated McMenamins Brew Pubs, Inc. dba McMenamins Six Arms for alleged violations of the Secure Scheduling Ordinance.

McMenamins agreed to settle the allegations for a total of $90,949.59 to 131 workers including back wages, interest, liquidated damages, and civil penalties, plus a fine of $691.87 payable to the City of Seattle. McMenamins employs over 5,000 employees at over 50 locations worldwide.

OLS alleged that McMenamins failed to:

    • Issue premium pay to its employees at Six Arms in all instances where it was owed due to employer-initiated changes to employee work schedules
    • Document which schedule changes were employer-initiated, and which were employee-initiated
    • Document (in some cases) whether an exception to premium pay applied

McMenamins agreed to implement an updated Secure Scheduling policy as part of the settlement agreement.

McMenamins is one of 54 settlements under Seattle’s Secure Scheduling Ordinance since the law went into effect on July 1, 2017. Over the past 8 years, financial remedies totaled $10,312,557.59 with 11,160 workers impacted.

“OLS understands the complexities of this law and we want to remind employers and managers of their responsibilities so they can meet the requirements and avoid potential fines. OLS offers a wide range of resources and encourages employers to reach out to us with any questions,” said OLS Director Steven Marchese. “The intent of the Secure Scheduling law is simple: everyone has the right to know when they’re scheduled to work and how many hours they’ll receive. This helps provide greater stability both on and off the job.”
