Seattle Office of Labor Standards Reaches Settlement with Din Tai Fung Restaurant for Alleged Violations of Paid Sick and Safe Time and Wage Theft Ordinances

Nearly $600,000 returned to 1,245 employees

Seattle, WA (June 18, 2025) – The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) investigated Din Tai Fung (Pacific Place) Restaurant, LLC, Din Tai Fung (University Village) Restaurant, LLC, and DTF Prep Seattle, LLC Din Tai Fung (Din Tai Fung) for alleged violations of the Paid Sick and Safe Time (PSST) and Wage Theft Ordinances.

OLS alleged that Din Tai Fung’s attendance policy improperly deterred employee use of PSST and that the company failed to provide employees with all required rest and meal breaks.

The companies settled the allegations and agreed to pay a total financial remedy of $567,361.32 to 1,245 employees.

Din Tai Fung also agreed to:

    • Develop and implement a written PSST policy
    • Implement meal and rest break policies
    • Eliminate its attendance points policy

“We are thankful to the City of Seattle for protecting our rights as workers. These are the values we represent as a city and community, and we will continue to fight for them,” said one Din Tai Fung employee.

“It’s great to know that my rights as a worker are protected. I’m happy to know that going forward, Din Tai Fung will be a safer place to work,” said another Din Tai Fung employee.

“The number of employees at a single restaurant who experienced PSST and wage theft violations highlights the need to increase awareness of these laws. It underscores the importance of workers knowing their rights in the workplace and serves as a reminder to businesses that compliance with Seattle labor laws is not optional – it’s a legal requirement, and workers’ rights must be respected,” said OLS Director Steven Marchese.

There are approximately 590 employees at the three Seattle locations that OLS investigated, and the restaurants’ parent company has at least 1,225 employees in the United States.
