Seattle Office of Labor Standards Announces Request for Proposal for Six-Month $60 Thousand Dollar Domestic Worker Hiring Entity-Employer Outreach and Education Contract
Seattle, WA (October 02, 2024) – The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) announces the availability of $60 thousand dollars in funding to expand outreach, education, and technical assistance to Domestic Worker Hiring Entity-Employers in Seattle regarding their obligations under the Domestic Worker Ordinance and the Paid Sick and Safe Time Ordinance, as well as other ordinances relevant to domestic worker-employees.
OLS will award a six-month contract totaling $60 thousand dollars to fund a local organization. The 6-month contracting period begins December 2024.
Due to the advocacy of the Domestic Workers Standards Board (DWSB) and Domestic Workers Coalition, in 2024 OLS received this one-time allocation of $60,000 to provide funding to a community organization(s) to increase hiring entity-employers’ awareness and their responsibilities under applicable Seattle labor laws.

OLS oversees the Domestic Workers Bill of Rights (referred to above as the Domestic Worker Ordinance), the first in any municipality in the United States, which became effective in 2019. This law requires that domestic workers receive a minimum wage, rest, and meal breaks. The law also created the Domestic Workers Standards Board (DWSB), which provides a medium for hiring entities, domestic workers, worker organizations, and the public to consider, analyze, and recommend to OLS, Mayor, and City Council other possible legal protections and standards to improve the working conditions for domestic workers, including the funding available for this RFP.
