Seattle Office of Labor Standards Announces Settlement with Mod Pizza for Second Violation of Secure Scheduling Ordinance
$80,000 in Civil Penalties to 80 Employees
Seattle, WA (February 29, 2024)- The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) investigated MOD Super Fast Pizza LLC (MOD Pizza) for alleged violations of the Secure Scheduling Ordinance.
MOD Pizza reached a settlement with OLS and agreed to pay $80,000 in civil penalties to 80 employees and $622.85 in fines to the City of Seattle.
OLS alleged that MOD Pizza failed to provide employees with a written work schedule at least 14 calendar days before the first day of the work schedule at its University District location.
“I really appreciate the work the Office of Labor Standards has done in this case and in others to stand up for workers’ rights. Often times we feel powerless on the job, but it doesn’t have to be that way. And asserting your rights at the workplace is one of the ways you can begin to change that,” said a MOD Pizza worker.
This is MOD Pizza’s second violation for failure to provide schedules 14 days in advance under the Secure Scheduling Ordinance. The total financial remedy for the prior settlement was $12,300.00 to 30 affected employees.
“A predictable schedule is key for workers. The Secure Scheduling Ordinance was implemented to guarantee advance notice. OLS takes violations of the Secure Scheduling Ordinance and all Seattle labor standards seriously, particularly repeat offenses, as businesses owe their employees fair scheduling practices. OLS is committed to collaboration, offering free training and technical assistance to help businesses comply and succeed,” said Director Office of Labor Standards, Steven Marchese.
MOD Pizza has more than 20,000 employees worldwide and operates in several Seattle locations.
