    Seattle Office of Labor Standards Invites Public Comment on Proposed Rules for the Cannabis Employee Job Retention Ordinance 

    Seattle, WA – (May 8, 2023) The Office of Labor Standards (OLS) invites public comment on proposed rules for the Cannabis Employee Job Retention Ordinance. 

    This ordinance requires: 

    • Covered outgoing cannabis business employers to post written notice of a change in control and provide a preferential hiring list to the incoming cannabis employer. 
    • Incoming employer to retain covered employees for a certain period of time following the change, among other hiring and retention requirements. 

    The proposed rules clarify issues raised by the ordinance, including: 

    • Provisions related to preferential hiring
    • Offer of employment 
    • Discharge from employment for just cause

    Members of the public are invited to comment on the proposed rules in writing. Written comments must be received no later than 5:00 PM PST on May 30, 2023.
