Seattle Office of Labor Standards Issues Proposed Administrative Rules for Seattle’s Transportation Network Company Driver Minimum Compensation Ordinance
Public comments on proposed rules accepted until April 23, 2021
Seattle, WA – (April 1, 2021) The Seattle Office of Labor Standards (OLS) has released proposed administrative rules for the Transportation Network Company (TNC) Minimum Compensation Ordinance (SMC 14.33) for public comment. The ordinance requires TNCs like Uber and Lyft provide a minimum per minute and per mile payment for each covered trip by a TNC driver.
The new rules clarify issues raised by the ordinance. For example, the rules clarify coverage for certain trips, the application of some minimum payment requirements, and set out guidelines for deductions from pay.
When final, the rules will be designated as Chapter 210 of the Seattle Human Rights Rules (SHRR).
Members of the public have 23 days – until April 23, 2021, at 5:00 pm PST – to comment on the proposed rules. The full text of the rules is available on the OLS website:
