Seattle City Attorney’s Office Joins Recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month

    10/28/2025

Seattle (Oct. 28, 2025) – In recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October, Seattle City Attorney Ann Davison expressed deep appreciation for the work done by those members of her staff who work in the Domestic Violence Unit at the City Attorney’s Office (CAO).

“Unfortunately, domestic violence cases make up almost one-third of all cases referred to my office by Seattle Police,” said City Attorney Davison. “As the first woman and mom to serve as City Attorney, I take these cases very seriously. We have a team who is also dedicated to survivors and understands the generational importance to ending the cycle of domestic violence.”

Upon taking office in 2022, City Attorney Davison underscored the need to prioritize DV cases referred to the office.

Since 2022, CAO’s filing time on all cases, including DV cases, has been reduced by half.

“Our DV Unit prosecutors and advocates, particularly, stand up and speak up for the victims of domestic violence. Too often in our society, victims are not heard and they are often forgotten. I am grateful for the unwavering commitment of our DV Unit as they center victims and their families in the cases that we file,” said City Attorney Davison.

In recognition of the work done by the CAO’s DV Unit, the Mayor’s Office on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault (MODVSA) is awarding the unit a City of Seattle Certificate of Appreciation at the 2025 DV Awareness Month Event on Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025.

According to the MODVSA, the certificate “will be presented in recognition of your team’s exemplary partnership and steadfast commitment in supporting survivors.”

As part of her priority focus on DV cases, City Attorney Davison added an investigator to the CAO’s DV Unit, a first in the history of the Law Department.

“Adding an investigator shows the high priority this is for my office as we work to protect survivors,” said City Attorney Davison. “Reducing domestic violence – and even its exposure to others – reduces community violence, so I will remain steadfast in prosecuting DV cases. That is true during Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and every day of the year.”
