Continuing our outreach to Seattle neighborhoods, Seattle Municipal Court (SMC) is bringing several court services to the Garfield Community Center on Thursday, May 9, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Community members will receive assistance with resolving SMC warrants in a non-threatening location, learn about options for addressing Seattle and King County tickets by setting up a payment plan or community service plan, regaining their driver’s license, and access supportive services through the Community Resource Center. Court staff will answer questions about court processes, schedule hearings, and provide information on resources and programs available through the court. No appointment is required.
Supportive services offered on-site at the event include: DSHS benefit enrollment (food, cash, medical, employment pipeline, ID voucher), Medicaid/Apple Health, referral for a vision exam and eye glass vouchers, job training and employment resources, Hepatitis C testing, Orca Lift reduced fare pass and other transportation passes, chemical dependency and mental health referral, Utility Discount Program, referral to a public defender to learn about vacating a felony or misdemeanor conviction and outstanding legal financial obligations, and access to other basic needs and resource referrals.
“We are bringing our staff and court resources into the community to provide a safe and convenient path for resolving outstanding warrants and tickets”, stated SMC Presiding Judge Ed McKenna. “Attendees will learn options to resolve their case and for those who need it, access social services and support on-site through our Community Resource Center partners.”
Anyone who needs assistance is encouraged to attend Thursday, May 9th, 2019, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. at the Garfield Community Center, 2323 East Cherry St, Seattle WA 98122.
